Rep. McHenry Blasts Bicycles

Is this guy for real?  Wow, I guess I've really lost it.  Being that I don't own a car.

I have to laugh.  Bicycles are a viable form of transportation.  Not only that, you'd be amazed with the quality of life that the simplicity of Bicycle Lifestyle brings.  Its not easy.  For the most part our infrastructure in America is geared toward the Car Life.  Cars cost use lots of money.  For that money we go to jobs.  Job = need car = Job.  I'm not saying to quit your jobs.  What I'm saying is that when we CHOOSE to live close to work, groceries, etc, and when we choose to ride a bicycle for transportation, suddenly our quality of life is better.  In our cars we are separated from our community.  we are encapsulated in our own little worlds.  we loose touch with our environment.  We zoom around too fast, all the while we spend our money = time = our lives, paying omage to The Car.  Now dont get me wrong.  I used to love cars.  I've had my share of hot rods, and nice new cars too.  3 years ago i was in a head on collision with a drunk driver.  Totalled both cars, my then new Honda Element proved to be an awesome car to crash in.  I happen to be a cyclist of at least 20 years, so i had decided to quit my "Car Habit".  Viola!  suddenly I dont spend money like crazy.  You'd be amazed to what extent we are dependant on cars.  In a way, it is sad to see us as a society so incapable of simply riding your bike to the grocery store.  its as if, we'd simply go into crisis if we didn't have our cars.  if a person spends more than 10% of their take home pay on motorized transportation, I'd seriously think twice about that.  Especially when you look at banks these days that are giving a solid 5% on CD's.  Imagine 5% on $20k.  Imagine 5% on $20K for a car for 5yrs.  Now think about that 5% on $20k in a CD for 5 years.  if a person could choose their debt, would you choose a mortgage or a car payment?  Did i just compare buying a house with buying a car?  uhhh...ya

every time you use a car, this is what we encourage.  The way a person spends their money is their most significant vote.
